Poetry out loud
The poem I chose was "The arrow and the song". I chose this poem because it had a good meaning behind it. The meaning behind it is that you never know were you end up at whether the place you are in is good or bad and that where you go is your choice. Also the poem is short but the length isn't the reason I chose it.
I plan to prepare for this compition by reciting my poem many times and also memorizing it. I also have to make sure i convey the meaning and just not read the poem. Also i need to beat Cody because he is to good.
I am coming for you CODY

Three Poems by Robert Frost
The poem I chose to write about is "The Road not Taken". I chose this poem because there is so much meaning behind it. This poem talks about how you will have to make tough decisions in life and is not always best to take the road that looks the easiest. Even if the road you take is hard you have to see it through because at the end it could pay of. In the poem Robert Frost says "...Because it was grassy and wanted wear;
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,"
This poem relates to my life because i have had to make tough decisions and i have always taken the easy way out instead of the way that will take more effort then maybe pay out in the end. Also I think this poem relates to my by the way it talks about the decisions you make and how they will effect you later in life good or bad.

This book changed my life
This has taught me about the hard times blacks had to go through back then. With all the racism and hatred toward them. Also it taught me about the innocents of people but you their innocence doesn't effect their outcome of life. Atticus says
"Cal, what's all this?" He was staring at his breakfast plate. Calpurnia said, "Tom Robinson's daddy sent you along this chicken this morning. I fixed it." ... The kitchen table was loaded with enough food to bury the family: hunks of salt pork, tomatoes, beans, even scuppernongs. Atticus grinned when he found a jar of pickled pigs' knuckles." (213)
This book has help me my freshman year by teaching me the way blacks have been cheated in the past. But it also taught that even when you know you will probably fail you keep on trying, and i think it is a very helpful thing to know.

Life lessons
Through out chapters 22-28 Jem and scout learn many very helpful lessons. Out of all these lessons I think the best lesson they learned was the way other people treated blacks. When Jem was talking to Atticus about the way Bob Ewell spit in his face and threatened him, Atticus says " As you grow older, you'll See that white men cheat Black men every day of your life but let me tell you something and you don't for get it whenever a white man does that to a black man, no matter, how rich he is, or how fine of a family he comes from, that white man is trash." (220) This is very important lesson for Jem to learn.
This is a lesson that my parents taught me but in a different form. They taught me never to discriminate against someone because of their race or any reason. they taught More that everyone should be treated equally no matter what color their skin is. This is an important lesson to learn because it teaches never o judge people by what they look like and to treat everyone equal.

Themes
I think there are many themes in "To Kill a Mocking Bird" But I think the best theme is Mocking bird motif is the best. I like this theme because it can be found many times through out the book. The phrase "to Kill a mocking bird" is the one of the most meaning full phrase because the mocking bird is an innocent person or animal that hasn't done anything wrong but people don't like them. There are people through out the book that represent the mocking bird like Dill, tom Robinson and Boo Radley. These people Are disliked by diffrent people all through out Maycomb.

Atticus as a Father
I think Atticus is good father. He is not to strict but he also keeps his children in line when they start being trouble. When Atticus was talking to Uncle Jack and said " Don't pay any attention to her Jack. She's just trying you out." I thought that it was weird that Atticus would just let her cuss. All together I think Atticus is a good father.
My Parents compared to Atticus are very strict. My parents would never let me get away with cussing in front of them. Also they wouldn't let me get an air rifle. If I was making fun of someone in front of them i would be grounded for ever. Atticus would be a good father but i prefer mine.

Changing Perceptions of Boo Radley
Some things they do are, they talk to Miss. Maudie about Boo and if hes a live or not and she says "His name's Arthur and he's alive." (P.43 chapter 5). She also tells him that he doesn't come out much because he is a foot washing Baptist and his religion thinks any thing that brings pleasure is a sin. They also sneak into the Radleys yard and when trying to escape Jem catches his pants and has to leave them tangled in the fence and when he comes back to get them later he finds them folded and stitched up poorly to almost make it look like Jem did it him self. These events make my view on Boo much different I now don't think he is as scary as he used to be also he sounds like a kinda nice guy.
Scouts discussion with Miss. Maudie changed my perception on Boo because she said he was an religious extremist and dosen't come out because he dosen't want to. Also in their play they were yelled at by Atticus because they were just making it up and didn't know anything about Boo except for the rumors they heard.

Boo Radley
My first impression of Boo Radley is this crazy kid who everyone has heard rumors about. I think he is crazy because he stabbed his dad with a pair of scissors. "Boo drove his scissors into his parents leg." (pg. 11). This would make me believe that he is crazy and i would be afraid to go anywhere near him if I saw him.
I think i am more like Jem because he always does the right thing (so far) he is also smart. Even when Jem was being pressured by Dill he still made the right choice and didn't go and touch Mr. Radley's house.
